Genesis 6
As with all difficult to translate and hard to understand Bible verses, Genesis 6 also has different explanations. I already mentioned the idea about fallen angels and about extraterrestrial visitors. But the Bible doesn't give support for extraterrestrial life and as about fallen angels, I wonder if angels mating with women - and children out of this - is possible geneticly.
Even more, Jesus explains in Matthew 22:30 angels are neither male nor female.
Another leading explanation is quite opposite to the one as told on the previous page. It is also derived from the term "sons of God". But now the sons are supposed to be the true believers and those who lived according God's will. Some go even further and declare the "sons of God" to be the descendants of Seth, while the "daugthers of men" belong to the descendants of Cain. (But what about the other children of Adam and Eve? See Genesis 5:4.)
This idea of a holy and an unholy line in the generations is supported by the fact the believers mentioned in Genesis 5 (Enoch and Noah) belong to the descendants of Seth. Furthermore it is borrowed from the Old Testament way God wanted to show himself to the world: through His people, through Israel. So Israel represents the holy line.
However, after Pentecost (Acts 2) holy and unholy isn't bound by relations between families, generations or tribes. It depends on the way each individual looks at Jesus. In fact it has always been this way. That is why we find non-believers in the holy line (e.g. some kings of Israel, but see also the period of the judges and the rebels in the desert after the escape out of Egypt) and believers outside the holy line (Job, Melchizedek - Genesis 15 - and Jethro - Exodus 18; but read also the words of Jesus to the Roman centurion in Matthew 8:10-12: "Truly, I say to you, not even in Israel have I found such faith. I tell you, many will come from east and west and sit at table with Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob in the kingdom of heaven, while the sons of the kingdom will be thrown into the outer darkness.").
However, the believers in Genesis 6 are mixed up with the non-believers. In this proces the "sons of God" are losing their faith. Well, that's the way it goes when believers pay to much attention to sinful beautiful women. Finally there is just one faithful family left: Noah and those who belonged to him. It's about time for God to intervene...
If we are willing to believe in a holy line through history of mankind, we have to realize one thing: this line isn't maintained by men. On the contrary: in spite of men this line still exists. It is due to God it ever has been there. He made a promise in Genesis 3:15 and He had to keep it. Through mankind's history He searched for men who where willing to obey Him. It was part of the plan to save mankind from its imprisonment caused by the Enemy.
