The Genesis Site - War
Genesis 11
As sure as the age of peace and unity is known, as sure the beginning of war is remembered.
For the Maya it was the need of human blood for their sacrificies. Started once with animal blood, they soon wanted more: hearts and blood of human beings. So they began hunting members of other tribes.
The same can be said about headhunting. Human heads were needed to keep the spirits quiet. The Tsuwo tribe on Formosa mentioned without doubt how headhunting began very short after the flood. All survivors of the flood were gathered on a mountain and there the first head was rolling. After the withdrawing of the waters , the people dispersed and young man went to other tribes to hunt for heads.
On Samoa their is told about a big fight between the gods in the heavens. Sun, Moon and Milky Way receive their places. Soon afterwards a tree is growing on Samoa. But the tree is cut down. Man living in the shadow of the tree and man living on its branches have a quarrel. This is due to the dirt that is thrown down by the people living on the braches. In this way, so myth tells us, man were dispersed.
The Hopi tribes in Arizona know how they once lived in proud cities at the other side of the world. But these cities were destroyed and the Hopi had to flee. The cities were destroyed by a bombardment. The Hopi accused their brother tribes of these crimes. So here we find a first struggle too. It is not difficult to trace the story of Genesis in this tradition. The "proud cities" refer without doubt to the attitude of the people and the city and tower they were building in Babel.
In Egypt is remembered how war came into being after the disappearance of the sungod Ra, taken away between the horns of the goddess Nut. Like the Hopi they accused each other of this disaster. With bow and arrow they fought against the enemies. This was the day war came into this world.
War between tribes does not say something about relations within the tribes. More about this on the site "The Days of Job", part 2 of "The Trilogy".
