The Genesis Site - Gods
Genesis 11
One of the strange facts in myths are the gods with the name of a planet. Is it coincidence they are sharing the same name? Or are gods and planets one and the same body?
Plato explained they are the same. In his Timaeus (40 B) he wrote:
- From this cause, then, came to be all the stars that wander not, living beings, divine, eternal, which abide for ever revolving uniformly and in the same place;
Plato claimed the divine stars (Kronos, Rhea, Zeus and others) were called Children of Gods by the Creator and Father of all. (Timaeus 41 A)
I can think of only one explanation how planets could become gods: they left their mark on earth. They created chaos.
For some reason the people of Babel were not convinced they were only dealing with meteorites, planets and a shifting solarsystem. They must have reasoned that what came from heaven had to be a god. Their conscience forced them to think this way. For they must have been well aware of Gods word to disperse around the world and not to cluster. Their parents or grandparents or in any case their granddaddy Noah must have told them so. Now they felt guilty.
The impact of a changing solarsystem was terrifying and made them fall down on their knees for their newborn gods. Maybe they thought it was the end of the world.
So we meet up with the origin of religion. Indeed Venus was worshipped by many tribes for a long time. Sacrificies were brought in all parts of the world.
The Maya described in their books when religion came in existence. First, they said, there was no worshipping of idols. Or, as they put it:
- They did not yet pray to wood and stone.
But after the arrival of the morningstar Venus this is changed. They were carrying stones on their backs when they made their long voyage to their new home. These stones represented their gods and told them where to go.
The Egyptians remembered the birth of their gods. Their pyramid texts tell about the eastern part of the horizon where the gods were born. They talk about them as being stars. One of them is the Morning Star, Isis, the Egyptian Venus. Another one is the well-known Ra, the Creator and Sungod. Is it surprising one of his hieroglyphs is a circle or disk with a dot in the center? (See chapter Venus for the explanation of this symbol.)
Persian priests sang a prayer about the birth of the gods. Herodotus knew about this song (Herodotus, I, 132). But most striking is the story of the Aztecs. They had rough times in their history and often had to wander around. One day (and archeologists believe this is about 1200 A.D.!) they found a ruined city. To them it looked familiar. In their stories they heard many times about this place. They thought it was the city were the gods were born! I am convinced they really thought they were back in Babel. So they named it: Teotihuacan. Meaning: the city of the gods.
