The Genesis Site - Conclusion
Genesis 11
Why was Babel abandoned? Let's try to summarize the previous pages. However, the last word about the Babel disaster isn't written yet. Research is still going on. A few things can be said though. As a provisional conclusion.
The descendants of the flood survivors stranded in Mesopotamia. As a unity they started building a village and a tower. But God saw what was going on. Even more, He saw how this all would end: "And this is only the beginning of what they will do; and nothing that they propose to do will now be impossible for them (Genesis 11:6)." And what was the intention of men? Indeed, they would be like God. It was the temptation from the very beginning (Genesis 3:5). Finally this would end up in the impossibility to save mankind and restore life again. It would become D.O.A. for every living person. So God decided to interfere.
So far human history can be traced in the Bible. But how did God interfere? As we saw before, the descending of God can mean some rough times for mankind. And as myths show, some kind of solarsystem disaster took place.
God used a solarsystem disaster to prevent mankind from receiving eternal death. But what actually happened? That is the challenging question. Myths suggest some kind of explosion took place (these myths are not added to The Genesis Site yet). This could have been on the former sun. Both Venus (once known as the Eye of the Sun) and Earth were thrown out of their orbits and pushed in another. Great changes took place in our solarsystem. During this time Venus was visible as a serpent, because of her "tail" or "beard". That is why she was called "water snake" or "Quetzal Cohuatl" by the Maya. Other tribes used a suchlike name too.
Looking like a comet her gravity pulled with her the fragments of another hit planet. Meteorite rain struck Earth. Harmfull radiation bombarded mankind.
The unity of Babel was disturbed and men fled to all directions. The visible happenings in the sky (and the memory of the flood in mind) made fear for God grow intensively. As shown, most religions started because of "the coming of the gods". All around the world great temples or pyramids were built by mighty grown tribes. These temples were not only ment for worshipping, but often had another purpose too. They were used to track the movements of the sun and the other stars. The precise alignment of this pyramids still does astonish modern men.
Other tribes kept wandering for centuries. Some of them would never come to a high level of civilization. Even today we say some tribes are still living in the Stone Age.
(More about what Babel brought on can be found on "The Days of Job", part 2 of "The Trilogy".)
In all kind of ways mankind tried to keep the memory of the disastrous events alive. By stories, songs, dances, rituals. Meanwhile times were changing. One day the historical stories were called "myths" by new generations. And men forgot the reality of history.
